  • Edible Plant Nursery

  • Forest Garden Consultation and Installation

Edible Plant Nursery
The edible plant nursery has a full stock of plant material appropriate to high elevation forest gardening. The nursery is intended to provide for complete multi-story gardening: over-story and under-story trees, shrubs, perennials, groundcovers, and vines. The nursery currently includes a selection of cold-hardy fruits: Apples, Pears, Apricots, Cherries, Currants, Gooseberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, and Grapes. Several varieties of nitrogen-fixing shrubs are available, including Siberian Peashrub, Buffaloberry, and Leadplant; nitrogen-fixing plants are an essential aspect of forest gardening in that they reduce dependence upon additional fertilizers. The nursery also sells a number of medicinal, insectiary and mulch-producing perennials: Chives, Hops, Sage, Comfrey, Fennel, etc.

In addition to the cold-hardy forest-garden stock, Jeromešs Organics is quickly developing its greenhouse stock. The indoor nursery is intended to provide solar-heated greenhouses with plant material for perennial, Mediterranean polycultures. CRMPIšs greenhouses have recently been converted from annual production and now include perennials such as figs, bamboo, persimmons, pomegranates, passionfruit, and jujubes.

CRMPI and Jeromešs Organics are constantly expanding the selection of edible plants available for this region and its growing conditions. Different fruit cultivars are being grown and grafted to see which perform and produce best. More exotic fruit and nut types, imported from other nurseries, are currently being tested and will soon be available. Additionally, material from older, productive fruit trees around the Roaring Fork Valley are being collected and grafted on to appropriate root stocks for further evaluation.

Forest Garden Consultation and Installation
Jerome and his staff are also available for forest garden consultation and the installation of edible nursery stock. The CRMPI site is surrounded by a productive, 15-year old forest garden and Jerome has contributed to a number of other successful gardens around the Roaring Fork Valley.
